Description

1964 Bentley S3 Four Door Saloon

SALE AGREED          An exceptional example, in lovely condition throughout, very nicely finished in the original Sand & Sable colour scheme with excellent beige leather. The whole car is absolutely delightful, sound, smart, sharp and correct in all respects, having covered just 75,000 miles in its 55 years. Importantly, the underside is totally sound, with none of the corrosion issues that these cars can be prone to, with very solid chassis, floors, body mounts etc, all being untouched and good. The paintwork is excellent, as is the chrome, woodwork, etc, and the leather is still soft & supple. In the boot, tools large and small are present and correct, appearing virtually untouched, as is the boot carpet, which in itself tells a story. A wonderful, unmolested car, accompanied by a file containing invoices going right back to 1965 which, in combination with various other documents confirm the mileage to be genuine.

Chassis No.  B216EC                            Reg. No. ENP 664B

Snippets: Fast Cars

The 1st owner of B216EC was a Mrs D V Holt who owned the S3 for 21 years until she sold it in 1985 to a Malcolm “Victor” Gauntlett. Victor was a car enthusiast & he owned & raced a Blower Bentley that, before WWII, had been owned & raced by none other than Tim Birkin (one of the Bentley Boys) lapping the Brooklands Circuit at speeds over 100mph!  In the 1970s Victor formed Hays Petroleum (trading as Pace Petroleum) which within 10 years had become one of Britain’s largest independent petrol firms supplying between 450 & 500 forecourts; by 1986 the company had grown to such an extent that it was sold to Kuwait Investments.  During his time as the owner of Pace Petroleum Victor acquired a stake in Aston Martin – Victor Gauntlett was responsible for convincing Cubby Broccoli that James Bond should drive an Aston Martin rather than a Bentley in “The Living Daylights”!  Within just 3 years B216EC was with Mrs M E Dingemanse of Inverna Court, Kensington – the handsome apartment block was designed by Edward Boehmer & Percy Gibbs, their portfolio included Biddulph Mansions, Harley House, Cavendish Mansions & Portland Place.  By the late 1980s B216EC was with Johan Putzfeld whose contact address was listed as Phoenix Films, Goldcrest Elstree Studios but what films they produced is unknown.  A later owner of B216EC was Basil Lockwood-Goose, he married Miss Joan Lockwood - the last of the Lockwoods - so they hyphenated their surnames becoming Mr. & Mrs. Lockwood-Goose.  After training at the de Havilland Aeronautical School Basil Lockwood-Goose joined the Dunlop Aviation Division & during his time with Dunlop he made over 100 Atlantic crossings & 6 circumnavigations of the world!  Once retired Basil concentrated on building several two seater aircraft and the renovation of his various pre-war Bentley & Rolls-Royce cars – several of which he had acquired from ourselves.
