PORSCHE 911 2.0 SWB COUPE - LHD
The Porsche 911 can trace its roots back to sketches drawn by Ferdinand Porsche in 1959 and was developed as a much more powerful, larger, more comfortable replacement for their first model the Porsche 356 and the new car made its public debut at the 1963 Frankfurt Motor Show. Production began in September 1964 and the first 911's sold in the USA in 1965 with a price tag of US$6,500.
This beautiful 1968 model year LHD US spec 911 Coupe - Chassis no: 11830301 is a matching numbers car and was manufactured in Stuttgart in late 1967 and supplied by Porsche in Culver City, Los Angeles, California to its first owner on 20th January 1968.
It is finished in its original factory specification of Sand Beige with Black Leatherette trim, Oil tank gauge and instrument gauges as per 911S, Over-Riders with rubber inserts, Tinted glass all round, Chrome plated Wheels with Hub Caps & Porsche crests, Seat Belts front and rear, original 1991cc Engine with twin Weber Carburettors and 4 Speed Manual Gearbox.
The car only had 2 owners in California and apart from being repainted at some point in the late 1990's it was completely original and exceptionally rust free when it was sold and imported in 1999 by its former keeper here in the UK. It was first serviced by Porsche specialist 'Jaz' in 1999 and subsequently given to 'Gantspeed Engineering' in Boston, Lincolnshire in the summer of 2002 who carried out a full mechanical overhaul including a top-end Engine rebuild + new piston rings, new Cam Covers, Carburettors overhauled, new Flywheel and Clutch + removal of the US Air Conditioning and emission components.
Since then it has had new suspension bushes, new front Shock Absorbers and new fuel hoses + routine servicing and has been MOT'd each year with the current MOT until May 2012. The Speedo is currently showing 16,154 miles, but we do not know how many miles the car has covered in total as the mileometer is not working correctly, but we are told that it has covered less than 3,000 miles since the Engine rebuild. The car comes complete with its original Handbook pack + Service book, original Sale Invoice from Porsche @ $6541.95 and a selection of early invoices from California.
This is such an original car, with the exception of the repaint and is totally rust free and in exceptional condition. The car drives and performs perfectly and the only fault, which we are happy to attend to at a small cost, is some minor micro blistering of the paint on the bonnet.
This car really does need to be seen and driven (as they say) to be fully appreciated. A great investment for the future and a car to enjoy!
