Known history in UK from new.
Right hand drive (sold new in the UK by Lendrum & Hartman, London).
Black with grey cloth trim and twin side-mounts.
320 cubic inch flat head V8 with 3 speed floor change manual gearbox.
Very few RHD examples were produced and even fewer survived.
This beautiful art deco style La Salle has been in our ownership since August 2001 and has been used sparingly on sunny days for shows and days out. 7 UK owners in total.
The car was sold new to Dr. A. Jefferson Bernhardt, by UK Cadillac Dealers Lendrum & Hartman. Dr Bernhardt, we believe was a |Harley Street Surgeon. He kept the car in virtually daily use until the late 1960's; it then went to several other owners until we purchased it in august 2001.
It has never been restored, and has never been welded underneath. Various refurbishments though have taken place during the last 10 years such as:
A full engine rebuild including many ancillaries, rebuilt steering box, suspension units front, refurbished rear leaf springs, brakes, wheel bearings, tyres, hubcaps, etc etc. The car is still
6 volt positive earth electrics and is fitted with a unique 12volt starter system
which works perfectly. Various minor re-plating of chrome and trim and
many other adjustments over the years have been attended to including a
stainless steel exhaust system.
This beautiful car is only being sold now due to lack of use recently and
deserves to be passed on now to a new loving owner.
There are several large A4 files containing the full history: documents included such as Current V5 and MOT, many previous old MOT certificates, many invoices for service and repairs over the years, including some handwritten history from Lendrum and Hartman dating back to the 1940's and beyond.
Also present is the shipping document showing the shipping of Right hand drive car 19-02-1937. The printouts of full DVLA keeper history, also numerous letters of correspondence accumulated over the years. All of which confirm the history and status of this very rare La Salle here in the UK.
The car is also known to the USA La Salle register and the UK pre-50's American Auto Club.
