In '59 the Edsel's decoding data plate had the word "MEL" for the Mercury, Edsel, Lincoln Division of Ford Motor Company, only Edsel got this special plate as the other two makes in the division carried their own name. As any Edsel owner will tell you, the Edsels were one of the most economical and dependable vehicle of its day.
